Drugs Policy on use of Illegal Drugs and Misuse of Legal Drugs by Students
This Union notes:
- Our Students’ Union is committed to provide an environment that enforces the laws relating to possession, supply and production of illegal substances.
- The Union is also committed to provide confidential support and guidance to those who are found misusing a drug substance in a non- judgmental way in order to minimise harm within the student population.
This Union believes:
- It is the role of the Union to support and assist the welfare of staff, students and visitors.
- That students and staff should be informed about drug misuse and its consequences.
- The Welfare and Education Centre and the Welfare Officer should offer information and advice to encourage the prevention of drug misuse.
- The Union should encourage a positive approach to health and well being through sports, recreation and other activities.
- That this policy should complement other Union and University policies when necessary.
The Union instructs:
- That the possession, use or supply of illegal substances on site is not condoned.
- That the penalties applied to the disciplinary depends on the offence whether it is the possession, use or supply of illegal drugs.
