ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
This union notes:
• That environmental awareness and practices are becoming major concerns for many students attending DMU.
• That DMU is in an area where environmental issues are a major concern for its populace.
• That DSU is an influential organisation in surrounding areas and needs to recognise these concerns as valid.
• That DSU currently endeavours to be environmentally aware but understands that more could be done to attain this goal.
This union believes:
• That environmental practises and general awareness of environmental issues are important for DSU members to recognise and understand.
• That DSU should, to the best of its abilities, pursue environmentally friendly practices wherever possible.
This union instructs:
• That environmental awareness should be promoted by DSU to its members.
• That DSU will, to the best of its abilities, identify and recycle recyclable waste that it produces through its operations.
• That DSU, in accordance with university buildings regulations, explore ways of improving energy efficiency within union premises.
• That DSU will work in conjunction with DMU to ensure that recycling of waste is occurring on regular basis.
• That DSU will work in conjunction with Leicester City Council to promote and increase environmental practises undertaken by its membership.
• That DSU will lobby both the university and the local councils to improve environmental practises and improve accessibility of these practices to DMU students.
